AFCON 2025 Final Ends in Drama as Senegal Walks Off Against Morocco

The Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat turned chaotic as Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1‑0 after extra time, but not without controversy. The match was goalless after 90 minutes, and tension peaked when the referee awarded Morocco a late, highly disputed penalty. In protest, Senegal’s coach Pape Thiaw ordered his players to walk off the pitch, halting the game for over 15 minutes.
Captain Sadio Mané eventually convinced his teammates to return. Morocco’s Brahim Díaz missed the penalty, and Senegal went on to score in extra time through Pape Gueye, securing their title.
The incident drew sharp criticism from FIFA president Gianni Infantino, and the CAF announced a disciplinary review. The Moroccan Football Federation also threatened legal action over the farcical scenes. The match will be remembered as one of the most dramatic and controversial finals in AFCON history.
