Ex-Harambee Stars Manager Engin Firat Passes Away After Heart Attack
Former Engin Firat, who previously served as head coach of Kenya national football team, has passed away after suffering a sudden heart attack.

Firat died on Monda1y, March 9, while at Istanbul Airport as he was preparing to travel to Adana, Turkey. The tragic news was confirmed by his club, Nejmeh SC, where he had been serving as the first-team coach.
Firat had recently joined Nejmeh SC after being appointed head coach on February 8, 2026. At the club, he reunited with several Kenyan players he had previously coached during his tenure with the national team, including Anthony Akumu, Masud Juma, and Austin Odhiambo.
During his brief time in Lebanon, Firat made a positive impact, maintaining an unbeaten record in his opening matches and guiding the team to a domestic cup final.
Firat served as the head coach of Harambee Stars from 2021 to 2024. During his three-year tenure, he oversaw 24 matches, registering seven wins, eight draws, and nine losses.
Following news of his death, Hussein Mohammed, president of Football Kenya Federation, led tributes to the late coach, praising his contribution to Kenyan football.
“Our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of former Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat. His contribution to Kenyan football will be fondly remembered. May his soul find eternal peace,” Hussein said.
Before taking charge of Kenya, Firat had also managed the Moldova national football team and served as an assistant coach at clubs including Fenerbahçe S.K., Eintracht Frankfurt, and Samsunspor.
